In the midst of a slouching economy, a group of Theater majors graduated from university and found themselves faced with a harsh dilemma: enter the creative fields for which they studied — with dubious economic security— or find mostly-unrelated jobs that pay the bills. Many of them chose the latter. Not to be distracted from their dreams, they have banded together to produce a series of short plays in a small theater in New York’s Gramercy neighborhood.

I had the pleasure of sitting in (and shooting) their first read-through, and was blown away. From the writing to the acting, the rehearsal was impressive. It is clear to me at that this is a group to be reckoned with. I sincerely recommend checking out the production:

I seem to be playing catch-up lately–new job, lots of things happening–finally editing photos I took months ago.

Night at the (Brooklyn) Museum

On July 2nd, the Brooklyn Museum held their monthly First Saturday Party, where the museum offers free admission, live music, and a dance party (if you’ve never been, you should check it out. It’s a lot of fun and worth dealing with the crowd). I went to the First Saturday Party with the intention of taking some music and dancing shots, yet I found myself drawn to some of the quirkier elements throughout the museum, and some of the people in the parking lot/dance floor outside. When I shoot big events, I typically focus on the pieces that make up the whole–the people talking in the corner, the hand of a large statue, a momentarily-empty room–these are the things that I find most interesting. Hope you do too.
